The Ebonite One Remix is the newest rendition on an old idea. The One line, which features the Centrex core, has been around for the better part of the new millenium, with this newest remix featuring the GB14.4 solid cover stock out of the box at a 2000 crown factory compound finish. This coverstock is technically the only time this newest formulation has been used, however it follows in the footsteps of the GB14.0 that was used on the Maverick.
Now, for those interested in numbers, this is the most asymmetry you buy from any of the three major manufacturers. The .027 intermediate differential stands head and shoulders above the rest of the core options offered, but has been around for as long as it has for a reason. Pairing this with the newest, strongest cover formulation from Ebonite is meant to bring this proven shape into today’s playing field as oil viscosity and lane conditions continue to evolve.
Polished solids have become sort of unique in today’s game, but on the lanes, this cover and core combination matched up with me immediately. Even though the ball is very core dominant, it wasn’t too clean or to early. I was able to play up the boards, big angles from left to right and most everything in between with only having to make the predictable changes in hand positions and ball speed to adjust for the changes in approach.
Ebonite has almost always had a unique position in the bowling ball market as their releases tend to be quite clean through the fronts and mids, but still smooth at the end of the pattern. This is a shape that is hard to create and still have continuation, yet, with this One Remix, that’s what we’ve got. Even though the core numbers that create this shape are extreme, the ball motion to my eye was predictable and enjoyable. I trusted it’s ability to get to the pocket and through the pins regardless of where I was at the arrows, and on most house shots, that is all you really need to succeed.
So even though I expected this piece to have a specialized spot in my bag, it seems like something that might work on just about anything, its all just a matter of seeing it right on the pair your on, and doing the right thing with your hand.
With that, the One Remix fits a top line place in arsenals. I see it as being one of the first balls on the rack for those that match up with it. The strong benchmark when there is a decent amount of oil or when the shot calls for something strong and smooth downlane. The easy length provided by the polished solid cover allows the remix to slow down in the right spot front to back, maximizing your miss room left to right.
So those I think will match up best with this piece are one, those that lay the ball down onto the lane early. The traditional stroker or early timing bowlers will appreciate the consistent motion they can get out of The One Remix as it will be predictable, controllable and still retain a high carry percentage. And two, I think players who are rev dominant with a lower axis of rotation will use this piece more than almost anything else. Letting that core dominance shine through while still having a strong cover to not let the ball blow past the breakpoint, these players will see a motion that is hard to beat on both house and sport conditions.
Although it might be some old core technology, The Ebonite One Remix takes the best of what they’ve learned since the original release, matches it up with a modern cover formula, and gives you a look on the lanes that’s been proven for decades.
