Brexit Party MEP Ann Widdecombe, who suffered a humiliating election defeat during UK's general election, has returned to the European Parliament.
The former Tory minister was taking part in a debate on animal welfare. She told MEPs, in the European Parliament in Straatsburg:
"One of the big benefits of Brexit will be that we will no longer be tied in the UK to the single market rules which actually prevent individual States from banning live exports.
Following an incident in the English port of Ramsgate in which 40 sheep died, the local council did impose a ban, and that was ruled unlawful under EU law.
Defra in the UK has now announced that it is considering a ban, and so I say that on 31 January all the animals in the UK will be cheering".
