My figs have been a joy to me since rooting them as cuttings of purchasing small fig trees from nurseries. I have enjoyed over 30 varieties, the list is in the video near the end, and I have plans to harvest cuttings for friends and followers this coming dormant season. But currently, the plants are stressed in containers they have outgrown. It is time to up-pot them so they will have room to spread their roots and fresh soil to feed from. You will see how root balls grow, how dense they can get in a small pot, and how just a day or two in new soil will give new life to a strained plant.
In this video I also mention how to pinch fig tree growth buds. Pinching these tips can help shape your tree and produce more fruit. I will also show you the results of pinching on my mature in-ground tree that was trained to bush out by pinching.
A big thanks to my friend Karen who teaches English in Vitrac, France. She tells us how to pronounce my favorite fig variety. I butcher the name every time.
