It took less than three years from the first demo recordings Arlo Parks sent to BBC Music Introducing in 2018 to her award-winning debut album: “Collapsed In Sunbeams” (2021) catapulted the British singer–songwriter onto all the playlists of the major streaming platforms within a few weeks with tags such as “alt pop”, “neo-soul”, and “bedroom producer”. Today, the introspective poet with the breathy timbre is considered one of the visionary artists of her generation, puts on breathtaking shows at the Glastonbury Festival, and still knows how to stay true to herself and her DIY attitude. And with Arlo Parks, this is no empty phrase; rather, it is the modus operandi for the woman who now releases music on Transgressive Records but who nevertheless imbues her signature sound with an irresistible indie charm in terms of vocals, instrumentation, and production. With her new album, “My Soft Machine” (2023), she has proven with sentimentality as well as sovereignty, with stylistic certainty as well as eclecticism, that she knows how to realise and develop her very own style independently of the norms of the streaming era.

From September 20-23, the Reeperbahn Festival 2023 took place. Since its debut in 2006, the Reeperbahn Festival has become one of the most important meeting points for the music world and shows how an overflowing musical line-up can be combined with music industry interests and civil society engagement.
In addition to concerts, the programme also included formats from the visual arts and virtual reality as well as a thematically diverse range of films and literature. During sessions, showcases, networking events and award shows, trade visitors to the Reeperbahn Festival were able to rethink, experience and listen to music.

Heute gilt die introspektive Poetin mit dem gehauchten Timbre als eine der visionären Kunstschaffenden ihrer Generation, realisiert atemberaubende Shows beim Glastonbury Festival und versteht es trotzdem sich und ihrem DIY-Gestus treu zu bleiben. Das ist hier keine Floskel, sondern modus operandi in Kurzform für eine Frau, die mittlerweile zwar bei Transgressive Records veröffentlicht aber dennoch einen unwiderstehlichen Indie-Charme ihrem signature sound angedeihen lässt – in Vocals, Instrumentierung und Produktion. Mit dem neuen Album „My Soft Machine“ (2023) beweist sie ebenso sentimental wie souverän, ebenso stilsicher wie eklektisch, dass sie unabhängig von den Gesetzmäßigkeiten der Streaming-Ära ihre ganz eigene Stilistik realisiert und fortzuentwickeln versteht.
