READ THE PINNED COMMENT FOR FULL VIDEO DESCRIPTION INCLUDING CHAPTER MARKERS
00:00 Hello my friends.
00:05 In this modelling project I am building few shipping containers that are mostly old & rusty, 6 & 3 m (about 20 & 10 ft) in scale 1:35.
01:54 Foam board sheet 0.5 cm (about 0.19 inches) thickness. I will start with the sides of the container.
02:00 The first container is going to be 17.1 x 7.4 cm (about 6.73 x 2.91 inches).
02:05 Marking the sides.
02:15 I made a mistake. Sith happens 🤣
02:17 Instead of 17.1 cm I marked at 17.6 cm. Correcting! 😊
02:24 Sides are done. Marking the lower and upper sides of the container at 5.8 cm (about 2.28 inches).
02:37 Cutting.
02:44 All sides are ready (front and back I finished off camera).
02:50 Universal gluing the sides, instead of PVA, because it is transparent and dries faster.
03:03 Using pin needles if and when needed for better adherence.
03:09 ATTENTION! Keep always in mind that after gluing, painting, etc to let things dry.
03:59 I don't mind few gaps here and there.
04:05 The 6 m (about 20 ft) container is ready. I will mark and cut for a 3 m (about 10 ft) container off camera.
04:13 Universal gluing them and using pin needles if and when needed for better adherence.
04:24 If your foam board pieces are little bit bent, crooked, etc don't mind it.
05:19 I finished off camera for a total of two 6 m (about 20 ft) and two 3 m (about 10 ft) containers.
05:25 Using corrugated cardboard sheets, will mark and cut in the same container sizes.
05:29 Then will peel one side off. The rest will use on the outer sides of the containers for their wavy, ruffled, appearance.
05:37 Marking and cutting.
05:58 Very carefully peeling off. Exercise patience 😉
06:27 Completed off camera. PVA gluing.
07:16 No need to place a cardboard on the bottom.
07:36 Completed off camera everything but the doors.
07:41 Marking and cutting chipboard stripes of 1 cm (about 0.39 inches) to use as the containers side rails.
07:59 Cut them off camera. Also, marked at every 17.5 cm (about 6.88 inches). Cutting.
08:18 PVA gluing the side rails.
09:50 Completed off camera everything and now will be marking and cutting the doors.
10:22 Off camera cut 0.2 cm (about 0.07 inches) stripes for the doors seals.
10:26 PVA gluing.
10:55 This one I need to PVA glue again.
11:22 Cutting, smoothing out and PVA gluing, barbecue sticks that I already had marked, to use them as the doors locking bars.
12:10 Already had cut the doors hinges and PVA gluing them in their already marked positions.
12:50 Off camera I had cut toothpicks at 0.7 cm (about 0.27 inches), to use them as the doors handles. Super gluing them in their already marked positions.
13:26 Already done with the doors cam keepers.
13:32 PVA gluing the door on the container.
13:49 Using PVA, gluing these corner castings of 1 x 1 cm (about 0.39 x 0.39 inches).
14:23 Black primer painting like so.
15:30 The Army Paints Warpaints deep blue and airbrushing. It may need 2 or 3 coatings.
15:55 Second coating.
16:23 The Army Paints Warpaints sylvan green and airbrushing. It may need 2 or 3 coatings.
17:18 Vallejo's model air hull red airbrushing.
20:31 It is more bright than I expected. Will fix it with Vallejo's environment rust texture mixed with lots of water. Kind of a wash.
20:39 Painting.
20:50 Even before it is dry you can see the difference.
20:54 This one I will make a bit differently. Some brown and red brown. I will be dipping the sponge in both colors and then will be painting.
21:02 Let's go!
21:19 Brown pigment and with a brush, texturing.
21:39 Brown washing.
21:51 Very light brown painting with my little sponge.
22:08 Texturing with a very dark brown mix of mine.
22:28 Brown pigment mixed with Vallejo's model air burnt umber and texturing.
22:38 Keep in mind that all this texturing stuff is my way of doing things. I am pretty sure that there are multiple ways to go about it. I just want to avoid copying others, if and when it is possible.
22:58 Brown washing.
23:16 From everything that I have done so far, I think that I like this one the most.
23:27 Disclaimer 😊
23:28 Since I am new to all these rusting business, I am 100% sure that it can be done much better and that next time, I too, will do it better 😉
23:37 Hopefully you liked the project and you will enjoy the presentation.
