The KXAT2 auto-tuner allows your Elecraft KX2 radio to get a match on random wires, end feds, doublets etc
In this video I quickly show you how easy it is fit and then I get out on a hill to give it a test!
The antenna is simple. It's a W3EDP. The radiating elements consist of 84 foot (25.6 metres) of wire and this is fed against a 17 foot (5.2 metre) counterpoise. It can be arranged as a sloper or inverted V, with the counterpoise slung out of a window or even just laid on the ground. As designed it will work well on 80m, 40m, 20, & 15m. However, I've also used it on 60m, 30m and 17m with great results.
I am using a 9:1 balun here, however I really need to try it without one, as the KXAT2 tuner would probably still get a match.
I don't use a common-mode choke here as I'm basically QRP and there's no coax between the radio and antenna. However, with higher power and a coax run, a common-mode choke is essential.
