The all-new Honda Africa Twin 2020 comes in two different variations. To test them out we challenged Dave Thorpe, three-time FIM 500cc motocross world champion, and Adam Child, multiple UK record holder, and professional bike tester for 20 years, to ride the two bikes on and off-road from the same starting point at Dunster beach.
On the one hand we have the Africa Twin Adventure Sports, which offers a glorious way for you to embark on your next adventure. The machine is protected by a massive engine skid-plate and high-quality aluminum panels, to ensure a safe journey. And a 24.8L fuel tank provides more flexibility, allowing you to be on the road longer. Speaking of which, the twin-cylinder engine is enforced with an additional 5Kw/5Nm of peak power and torque.
And what’s a long trip without comfort? The Adventure Sports model also comes equipped with a full-colour 6.5-inch TFT touch-screen to provide a range of different riding modes to best suit your preferences. And with Bluetooth smartphone/audio connectivity, navigation and control is made as easy as ABC.
Then the second model is the more robust CRF1100L Africa Twin 2020. This motorbike is for the adventurers who want to take their journey off the beaten track. Just like the Adventure Sports version, the new Africa Twin off road comes with a powerful twin-cylinder engine, but a more lightweight main frame for optimal performance.
And for ultimate control, the new CRF1100L is equipped with IMU-controlled ABS. This will make sure among other things that your braking force corresponds to the lean angle. In addition, both models come with the option of Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT). The Africa Twin DCT offers both manual and automatic gear shifting, along with a G switch setting – perfect for off-road riding.
