The Last Mile is not actually a physical mile but a reference to the final stage of getting a product from the factory floor to your front door. It also happens to be the most expensive stage of the supply chain, so needless to say a lot of thought and consideration goes into the process.
To help illustrate the concept of the Last Mile, I tell the heroic (?) story of how a pen travelled half way across the world to end up on my desk. I introduce the topics of Supply Chain Management, Intermodal Transportation and Last Mile Delivery and how they relate to industrial real estate.
If you want to get a better sense of what's driving the current warehouse boom all across the world, you don't need to look much further than Last Mile Delivery.
