Food intake in ayurveda is given maximum importance because that is the one which will nourish the body. Freshly prepared homely food which is with less of oil and masalas is always preferable and food should be always warm while consuming. The position of the person while taking the food should always be sitting on the floor. Many of the people have started practicing the intake of food sitting on dining table. But that is not the ideal position. Once the person starts consuming the food all the concentration should be only on the food which is being intaken. A small prayer before the food would be ideal. Usage of one to two teaspoons of fresh ghee would be ideal in every food. It will ensure the proper lubrication of the joints and the nourishment of the body. The food shouldn’t be taken too fast or slowly so that you are giving good time for the body to absorb food properly. Time and quantity is very important. You should never overeat or undereat. If you divide stomach into three parts one part should be filled with food, one part with the water and the third part should be kept empty for the proper movement of the food. Many people have the doubt of water intake with the respect to the food. If the water is taken before the food it will make the person lean and slim. If water is taken along with the food it keeps the person as it is. If the water is taken after the food it will make the person stout or fat. After the food there is a protocol in yoga wherein kapal randra dhauti is performed. With the right thumb you have to gently massage your nasal bridge in between the eyebrows so that it will maintain the kapha after the food because kapha increases after food. After this gargling your mouth it is very important to throw out the left out particles sometimes brush also because it is a good habit to brush after every food.
