Chichen Itza, one of the 7 (Modern) Wonders of the World, was a must-see on our trip to the Yucatan Peninsula. When in Merida, how could we NOT see this marvel? The Mayans built the huge structure as a calendar WITHOUT having knowledge of the calendar we use today. Fascinating stuff.

Our day trip from Merida included a visit to the peaceful and luxurious Mayaland with a stop to one of the prettiest cenotes we've seen yet, Ik Kil. Even better, we used Chase Ultimate Rewards points so it was free...minus a nice tip, of course!
