(1 May 2019) Several hundred Venezuelan opposition supporters gathered outside the Carlota Fort on Wednesday, heeding a call by opposition leader Juan Guaidó for more protests a day after his calls for a military uprising fell short.
Dozens of masked protesters were seen gathered on the highway throwing rocks towards the fort.
The military used tear gas in an attempt to disperse the protesters.
Protesters are demanding President Nicolas Maduro's ouster in what could be another critical day in the nation's struggle between Maduro's widely detested socialist government and Guaidó's opposition movement, backed by powerful allies like the United States but unable to secure the loyalty of key factions, including the military.
Maduro has accused Guaidó of trying to stage a coup and says there will be criminal prosecutions.
