When I was a young writer, I remember thinking that I needed to "find my voice." I thought it was something I'd have to make decisions about: would my voice be urbane? Casual? Romantic? I wanted to have a strong voice, and I thought I needed to do some design work to get there.
This was he wrong way of thinking about my voice as a writer. You WILL have to make some decisions in order to find your voice, but they won't be about what kind of words to use. They'll be about what to risk, how sincere to be, and how seriously you're going to take this whole writing gig.
