Interview with Dr Adriana Cruz.
"Good morning, my name is Adriana Cruz.
I am a dermatologist and I work in Cali.
I would like to share with you my experience in using the DEKA SmartXide2.
This is a special patient of mine who suffered from alopecia, with considerable photo-damage to the scalp, and numerous actinic keratoses.
A fractionated CO2 laser treatment was performed in two steps.
First a free hand treatment was performed on each individual keratosis, followed by a fractionated treatment over the entire scalp. The improvement obtained was excellent.
After 7 days, an improvement of around 80% had been achieved; such rapid improvement in such a short space of time is not observed with more traditional treatments such as imiquimod, 5-fluorouracil, cryotherapy or others.
I have used the CO2 laser a lot for the treatment of onychomycosis.
Many patients had contraindications for systemic treatments and so the laser offered a good alternative.
You make small holes with the scanner and then apply a 2% sertaconazole cream that penetrates through the holes so as to be able to destroy the fungus.
At the same time, the thermal effect of the laser generates an unfavourable environment for the fungus' proliferation.
Here we see a before and after, another before and after, ... a before and after.
The procedure does not require anaesthesia of any kind.
The drug delivery method is also used daily in laser rejuvenation treatments and in the treatment of scars.
In this case, for example, a scar, which was a keloid, was resected and then a session was conducted using the fractionated laser and the application of triamcinolone.
Well, this is what I wanted to share. Thank you."
