Guys, I'm spending about three weeks in Kazakhstan, and I thought I would take some time to tell you about their Permanent Residency program. Having a coffee today, so it's the perfect time to share this information. It's actually one of the easiest programs to go through, depending on your citizenship, nationality, or the passport you hold. Fundamentally, to obtain permanent residency in Kazakhstan today, all you really need is a clean criminal background check from your home country on a national level. You'll also need about $10,000 USD to be deposited into a Kazakhstani bank. This isn't a donation or anything special; it's literally to show the government that you have the funds to live in the country without needing assistance from social programs. So, you deposit the ten thousand dollars, wait about a month or two for the application to process, and once you get your permanent residency, you're free to use that money for whatever you want. You can send it back to your preferred bank or keep it there. Excitingly, local banks offer about 17% interest on deposits in their local currency. They do offer this just to hold deposits. Anyways, let me tell you how I see Kazakhstan as a foreigner. I will admit that I've only spent time in the two major cities: Almaty and Astana. Astana is the political capital where all the government activities take place, and then you have Almaty, which is more of the economic capital. I will say, out of the two cities, Almaty tends to be a lot more fun. There's a lot more to do, more foreigners, and more people. I do find that Astana, I actually prefer Astana overall to Almaty. Astana tends to be a lot cheaper when it comes to housing. You can get a really nice apartment in prime areas for $400 to $600 USD. I'm talking about two bedrooms, brand new apartments. There's also high-speed internet all over the country. You can get 500 megabits per second for around $20 to $25 a month. I do think some companies offer up to one gig, but I'm not 100% sure. Anyways, overall, if you're looking for a place to start an online business and you're seeking low costs and no issues with visas, again, it's a small deposit, and you get your residency. One thing I will mention about Kazakhstan, especially Astana, is because of the situation in Russia at the moment.
There are many young men in Asana at the moment from Russia, and many of them are actually quite talented when it comes to IT stuff. I've met many developers and have encountered various IT-related skills. There's a lot of talent in the city right now, and honestly, many of them are looking for jobs. So, if you're working in IT, I would say it's a pretty good place to be for IT-related opportunities. I will also make a video on how to achieve a zero percent tax rate if you open a company in Astana or Kazakhstan, but that will be in a later video. Anyways, just wanted to inform you about the residency process here in Kazakhstan, and I'll be very brief.
The process starts in your home country, where you need to obtain a non-criminal background check, which must be clean. You have to apostille it. Don't worry about translating the non-criminal background check into Russian or Kazakh yet. You can do that once you land in the country. It does have to be a national-level criminal background check. The other thing you need is to contact the consulate/embassy of Kazakhstan in your home country and get something called a B8 Visa. It's rather easy to obtain, depending on your citizenship. With my Canadian passport, I was able to get the B8 Visa fairly easily. I simply submitted a form along with a cover letter and the fee, which is around 200-300 US Dollars, and I received my B8 visa. You can also inform them of when you plan to come to Kazakhstan, so you can apply ahead of time. You can say, "Hey, I'll be there in two months," and the visa will be valid for around 90 days. It can be a single entry or multi-entry visa. Then you can decide when to enter, and you have those 90 days to complete the process.
