Unlike pancreatic cancer in the head and neck, these cases often present only at late stages due to the location of the pancreas at the back of the abdomen, leading to few symptoms until the disease has progressed.

Dr. Baljekar explains that many patients discover their condition only when they experience pain caused by the cancer infiltrating nerves. Early diagnosis is rare and typically incidental through imaging studies.

For those diagnosed early, a major surgical procedure, similar to chronic pancreatitis treatment, is necessary. This involves a 95% pancreatectomy, where nearly the entire pancreas is removed, leaving only a small rim.
