The USS Spruance (DDG-111) is an Arleigh Burke class destroyer belonging to the United States Navy. USS Spruance (DDG-111) is the 61st ship of its class. The USS Spruance (DDG-111) was the first US Navy destroyer equipped with the Gigabit Ethernet Data Multiplex System (GEDMS), manufactured by the Boeing Company. GEDMS provides an Internet Protocol (IP)-based backbone for onboard video and data services.
The USS Spruance (DDG-111), a Spruance-class guided missile cruiser, and the Ticonderoga USS Mobile Bay (CG-53) departed the Port of Seattle on August 2, 2019, officially ending Seattle Fleet Week. Currently, the USS Spruance (DDG-111) US Navy is reinstalling the ODIN Laser on the Spruance destroyer. ODIN, a solid-state laser system, is designed primarily to engage and neutralize sensors on UAS, effectively blinding them without damaging the aircraft. The technical aspects of the ODIN system include its ability to emit high-intensity laser beams, targeting the optical sensors of enemy drones.
