As our Signalling & Telecoms Team Leader Matthew Morgan says, looking after signals isn’t the most glamourous of jobs – yet without the efforts of our dedicated maintenance team, our trains wouldn’t be going anywhere! We go behind the scenes on the Severn Valley Railway to discover some of our century old heritage signals and discover why they need plenty of TLC.

At the start of the year, when we’re in our annual shutdown period, it’s an excellent opportunity to tackle the job right along our 16-mile route, and the SVR’s latest acquisition, the MEWP (mobile elevated work platform) is making everything much easier than it used to be for Matt and his apprentice Brad.
