Zombie slaughter, My Fellow Gamers?
Grow up on Great/Terrible Zombie Slasher flicks of the 80s?
I did, and LOVED them all, and all these VR games have a lil bit of the magic in them, and now, I get to walk thru the movie, very similar to Day of the Dead. The Future is Now.
Here's Part 1/2 of my play thru of the DLC for Arizona Sunshine - The Damned. Taking place on the Hover Dam I believe, the mission is to survive the zombie horde, collect gear and ammo, and get down thru the dams internal super structure, guided by your post apocalypse superiors, via walkie talkie, to the core of the Dams hydroelectric generator systems, to set off a massive explosion and stop the zombie plague from destroying what's left of mankind.
Single player gameplay here, but Really this game is absolutely shining in Co-Op gameplay with friends. Arizona Sunshine has been around for a while now, originally released in 2016, but still shines as a straight up, straight forward, Zombie shooting, darkness exploring, head-shot aiming, ammo collecting, good time in VR space in 2020, with the added DLCs bringing a few more hours of fun to the base game and rounding it out with just enough material to warrant the non-sale price of $43.99CND in todays gaming market, while the brand new games such as "The Walking Dead Saints and Sinners" is selling for $45.99CND, so, its cutting it close, and then you look at games like SURV1V3 on Steam/PCVR at $28 and its open world...and its gets to be a pretty cluttered VR Genre, and yet, Arizona Sunshine is still and outstanding game.
It still packs a good punch in the dark however, those Zombies really have a good Creepy factor, and you can really Feel them in the darkness around you as you race to reload and gather ammo in the flickering beam of your gun mounted flashlight. I like how there is a good range of Zombie models, different looks and movement animations and speeds, keeps it semi fresh in there, but I am looking for games such as Surv1v3 for my VR Zombie slaying needs sooner than later, but, this is a much better game than Contagion VR for sure.
I like the feel and realism of the weapons here, there's a nice variation in the sound for each handgun, different haptic feedback, the revolvers Feel Heavy, and fire off with a thunderous Bang! Knocking Zombies back a few steps, where as the 9mm just punches holes in them at a rapid pace.
Reloads are lightning fast and accurate on my Rift-S, its easy to get in to a good reload rhythm when you are being over run by Zombie dirteaters and having a good chance of survival if you have been careful to conserve ammo thruout your exploration.
Nice use of lighting, height, and simple level layout, Arizona Sunshine is still the best basic and easy first purchase Zombie shooter every VR gamer should pick up, when its on sale ;) no matter what platform you play on, you can play Arizona Sunshine, and its a head exploding blast. PCVR, PSVR, Quest 1 and 2, Steam, WMR.
Part 2 to be posted soon.
Enjoy.
