COVID-19 is transforming the health research and innovation ecosystem, compressing into weeks structural and system-level adaptations that might otherwise have evolved over a multi-year—if not generational—timescale. Is this crisis-induced response a transient ‘wartime’ improvisation, or have we let the genie out of the bottle?
Over 250 attendees joined us for a virtual roundtable exploring the impacts of COVID-19 on health research and innovation that we convened in collaboration with Life Sciences Ontario ([ Ссылка ]) on May 28th, 2020. Panelists discussed how the pandemic has changed, and will continue to change: health data, systems and practices; research collaboration and partnerships; globalization and sustainability of health research; patient and public engagement; and equity in health research and innovation.
We would like to thank our panelists: Jim Tartaglia, Sanofi Pasteur; Connie Côté, Health Charities Coalition of Canada; Bogi Eliasen, Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies; Charu Kaushic, Institute of Infection and Immunity, Canadian Institutes of Health Research; and Ryan Wiley, Shift Health, for sharing their perspectives on how COVID-19 has impacted health research and innovation--including for their respective organizations--and what stakeholders need to do to adapt and thrive in the 'new normal' of health research and innovation.
