Prayers of the Community -- St. Paul’s and St. Matthew’s
Fourth Sunday after Epiphany – January 31st A+D 2021
Friends, let us pray for the whole Church of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs. … Brief silence …
O Holy Trinity, You are God of gods and Lord of lords. Truly, there is no God but You alone. From You and from Your Son, Jesus Christ, are all things. Come, Holy Spirit, and enable us to love one another, that through the people You have made Your own, all may know Your love. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
O Lord, our God, whose voice was heard at Sinai, and whose authority was made manifest in Christ, preserve us from false prophets who would lead us away from Your truth, and protect us from those who would attack Your people from outside the Church. Give us ears to hear gladly the saving words of Christ, and lips that gladly confess His name. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Holy One of God: we pray for those who have been paralyzed in these last months by a spirit of grief, or fear. We pray for those among us who face serious mental and financial struggles. Remind us all, Lord Jesus, of Your constant presence with us. Keep us steadfast in Your Word. Help us to walk courageously, and to reach out to one another with words and acts of encouragement. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Lord, we pray for the hundreds of thousands of innocent people whose lives are at risk because of warfare and poverty. Bring a just peace to Syria, Ukraine, Afghanistan, Yemen, and Sudan, and provision for the civilians in war zones. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son cast out unclean spirits and taught with authority. He is the Great Physician of body and soul. Have mercy on those who are sick, distressed, in danger or facing any need.
Bring physical restoration, Lord, to Greg, Michelle, and their family; to Triva; and to Dorothea Cloud-Gary;
Grant healing to Liloutie and Delores, and those who are hospitalized;
Give Your peace to Julie and her family, as they grieve for her sister, Kamla, and to our Sister, Felicia, as she mourns for her mom;
Give relief from pain and health to Matthew, Deacon Miriam, Dan, Karen, Josh and Wayne;
We pray for Bobby, Sharon, David, and those who are critically ill, as well as for the people who serve them faithfully as caregivers, asking You to give them strength;
We pray for the faculty, staff, students and alumni of Concordia College in Bronxville, as that school announced its closure, last week. Provide for them, we pray, and bring healing to those who are hurt by this decision.
We pray for baby Derek, Altanice, Sean, Virginia, Gertrud, Lisa, Judy & Eric, Althea, Fantasia, Jean & family, Kelley, and those whose names and situations we lift up to You now, aloud or silently… [_ ]. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
All these things and whatever else You know that we need, grant us, Father, for the sake of Him who died and rose again and now lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God forever. Amen.
