조태열 "日기업들도 한배 타는 마음으로 징용문제 해결 동참하길"
South Korea's new foreign minister, Cho Tae-yul called on Japanese companies to help resolve the issue of wartime forced labor together.
In a press briefing on Friday, he said he hopes Japanese firms could "ride on the same boat" to settle the longstanding historical issues that stem from the Japanese colonial rule of Korea, before and during World War Two.
His remarks come after the South Korean government last year, announced its plan to compensate the Korean victims of Japan's forced labor using funds procured through a public foundation, instead of from the Japanese companies responsible.
