✊ Happy International Women's Day!
✊ In March, we celebrate women!
✊ Asia - Dang
Dang (Phobsuk Gasing) is domestic worker leader who was born in the Maha Sarakham Province, where the soil is the poorest in Thailand.
The livelihood conditions affected her professional journey. She has been a migrant domestic worker for 30 years to date: 3 years in Taiwan and the rest in Hong Kong.
As a live-in domestic worker, she works long hours from Monday to Saturday. But it does not keep her from organizing.
She does union work at night after 10pm on weekdays and on Sundays.
She handles cases, joins meetings with different partners, holds meetings of her own, and she leads chants with high spirit and power.
Her chants earned her a nickname: Su Su Su. It means Fight! Fight! Fight! in Thai and Khmer.
Dang is beloved by her sisters in the movement, as she is humble and sincere. She does things from the heart. It is because she likes helping people and making a difference.
Dang is now:
1/ the chair of Thai Migrant Workers Union in Hong Kong,
2/ The executive committee member of Hong Kong Federation of Domestic Workers Unions (FADWU),
3/ and the leader as well for the Thai migrant and immigrant community in Hong Kong.
She was also the first titular Executive Committee member.
