In Texas, many tenants struggle to get their deposit back from their old landlords.
Unfortunately, most of the time the tenant ends up eating the loss because he or she cannot see a way to make things right, or they think it'll cost them too much time and money.
Fortunately, Texas law has strong protection for tenants when it comes to that security deposit. If you follow 3 simple steps, you can get it back in most cases. The only caveat is to double check your lease to see if there is an "advanced move-out notice" you have to provide (typically 60 days) as a prerequisite to getting your deposit back.
