In this video, Steve Caseley covers the basic definition of a project and the primary moving parts that go into it. Some of the simplest concepts have the deepest definitions, and Steve digs straight to the core of what a project is. He uses this to build a solid foundation for further education on project management.
A project is a temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product, service, or result. The term “temporary” doesn’t necessarily imply “short” or “brief.” Projects can span years, with larger ones exceeding a decade.
It’s important to note that a project has a start and an end. If it is an ongoing initiative with no defined end date, it isn’t a project, and a different approach toward executing it should be taken.
The concept of an end might seem simple until you begin to dissect it. Projects can be defined by resource limitations, such as when the initiative runs out of money. Time limits or end results can also define them.
