Akash missiles boast of versatile deployment options, launchable from both stationary and mobile platforms like tanks and trucks. They can engage various targets including fighter jets, drones, cruise missiles, and helicopter-launched missiles.
With a range of 30-35 kilometers and an operational ceiling of 18,000 meters, these missiles provide multi-directional and multi-target defense. Notably, they can carry a 60-kilogram payload, including both conventional and nuclear warheads. This capability allows them to potentially destroy aircraft and even ballistic missile warheads.
The Akash Weapon System is being integrated into the Indian Army as a Short-Range Surface Air Missile system. It holds the distinction of being the first Indian Surface to Air Missile with an indigenous Radio Frequency seeker.
