Today, there are no visitors coming. We can't provide food and water to the animals and half of them are ill because of the siege and the situation of Gaza in general. People hardly find food, let alone the animals."

LEADIN:
Animals held in Gaza's zoos are facing malnutrition, disease, death and, therefore, closure.
A lack of food and access to medical care has turned a place designed for enjoyment and study into a ghastly museum of neglect.
STORYLINE:
These dried-out husks were once animals that prowled the cages of Khan Younis zoo.
But without food and medical care they died.
And now Mohammad Eweda, the zoo's owner, has their stuffed carcasses on display instead.
The prospects for his living beasts do not look good either.
Israel's blockade on Gaza makes living conditions difficult for the population - and animals are well down the list of priorities.
Few paying visitors enter the zoo these days.
Eweda has accepted he can not continue to run the facility.
His only hope is for an international organisation to step in.
And winter weather is also a concern.
