The Image(s): Where do I start? The unceasing visual assault of the various crucifixes carried aloft as Joan is brought to the stake; The medieval faces of the onlookers that seem as though they were carved out of wood? The birds that suddenly appear in the sky? The guards that momentarily appear at the ramparts just before the end of the clip?
And of course the without-words facial poetry of Renée Jeanne Falconetti's face as she faces this final struggle.
(I purposefully only took the clip up until just after the flames are applied as it really is just too horrific for a sensitive soul like me! And anyway, we've all seen it)
