On the Hokitika beach on the West Coast of New Zealand, there is the annual Driftwood and Sand sculpture and beach art event every January. It is a great chance for travellers, locals and artists to be creative using materials found on the Hokitika beach. This grass roots event is run by a group of keen volunteers and receives very little funding and financial support. This event is a great example of Hokitika's vibrant Arts and Craft scene.
This year a grave for John Key caused some controversy on the beach.
