LEADIN:
It's a house like no other.
Perched on a tiny rock in the middle of a raging river, one Serbian man has created a unique living space that he's cherished for more than 40 years.
STORYLINE:
In between two countries, in the middle of a mighty river, Serbian Milija Mandic found over 40 years ago a "heaven on earth" for himself.
A passionate kayaker and diver since childhood, Mandic encouraged a group of his friends to erect a small wooden house on a lone rock in the middle of the Drina River, near the Serbian town of Bajina Basta - so they would have a place where to sunbathe, gossip about teachers and girls.
That was in 1968 and they were in their early teens.
Preserving his childhood hideout has turned into a life-long mission for Mandic. Over the past four decades, the river has washed away the house nine times. Once it took it as far away as Bratunac in Bosnia, some 50 kilometres downstream.
In December 2010 heavy rainfall which caused severe flooding along the Drina River was the worst in 104 years, according to officials..
