(8 Dec 2014) Police in the Persian Gulf island kingdom of Bahrain were investigating late on Monday the killing of a fellow officer in what authorities described as a "terror attack".
Police gathered evidence and cordoned off the site as a police helicopter flew overhead in Damistan, a strongly Shiite opposition area, southwest of the capital Manama.
Bahrain's Interior Ministry said the officer was on duty when the attack happened but did not give more details.
Police sealed all entrances and exits to the village.
Following the killing, protesters in nearby villages started fires in an attempt to divert police pressure away from Damistan.
The Sunni-ruled kingdom's Shiite majority frequently clash with police, and hard-line protesters have at times used improvised explosives.
Bahrain is home to the US Navy's 5th Fleet, and Britain recently signed an agreement to establish a permanent naval base on the island.
