Your fish aquarium does not need light at night. I highly advise you use a mechanical timer to have your light turn off at the same time every day. You want to try to mimic what a natural ecosystem would look like. Fish in the aquarium also want the light turned off at night time. Run your aquarium light during the day and turn it off at night.

I highly advise that you turn off your aquarium light at night due to excessive ultraviolet levels. When your aquarium gets too much light it is very susceptible to an algae outbreak. Your best bet is to get a mechanical timer and set up your aquarium light to wear receives between 8 to 9 hours of light per day.
