Almatu - February 4 Ukrainian ice dance pair won gold
1 Gold: Alexandra Nazarova – Maksim Nikitin (Ukraine) – 165.62
2 Silver: Sofiya Evdokimova – Egor Bazin (Russia) – 156.96
3 Bronze: Shari Koch – Nuechtern Christian (Germany) – 154.00
Ice dance winners have been determined in Almaty Arena competitions. Three top pairs being defined in short program kept their positions in final. The competing pairs have been loved by local sport fans and were supported with a long applause. The spectators backed actively each performance of the pairs. The Russian pair had a chance to win but the judges gave a victory to the pair from Ukraine (Nazarov-Nikitina) marked their technique.
“We thought we could win medals in the ice dance competition, -said the head of the Ukraniane delegation Vadim Stetsenko, - but were not confident to win a gold medal. Maksim and Alexandra impressed with their skating performance. I’d like to thank Kazakhi people for a warm hospitality and cheering of the Ukrainian pair.”
The athletes from Germany (Katharina Mueller and Tim Dieck finnaly got the forth position but they are very happy to participate at the Universiade.
“We’re happy to be here in Almaty. We’d like to come again. It was interesting to see our rivals skating. We congratulate the winners! Good luck to all!”
