The Syria education crisis weighs heavily on children forced to drop out of school — some as young as 7 years old — to help support their families. What is education like in Syria when they try to resume learning? According to students interviewed by UNICEF education officer Yessir Hemidy at a UNICEF Syria education center, “They don’t understand anything from the curriculum. They were unable to read and write, but they were in grade 6 or grade 8.” At a UNICEF community center, kids are starting over, learning the skills they need to move forward and pursue promising futures.
