Back in March 2021 India & Philippines sign key defense pact. The pact will pave the way for government-to-government deals on defense equipment including the supersonic BrahMos cruise missile. As per the pact India had offered a $100 million line of credit for the purchase of the weapon. This pack was signed to help Philippines raise its military power to counter china in contested water of South China Sea. Back in February 2021, similar package was also offered to Mauritius. Now, Philippines had cashed in its line of credit for the procurement of Advance Light Helicopter ALH druv and donier-228. As per HAL 2020-2021 annual report, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has received interest from the Philippines Coast Guard (PCG) for procurement of indigenously designed and developed Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH-DHRUV) and DO – 228 multi-purpose light transport aircraft. Also, HAL has Progressed discussion with Mauritius side for supply of one each ALH Mk III wheel variant and Passenger Variant of Do-228 aircraft under government of India Line of Credit. In March 2021 HAL has also completed price reasonability study of Do-228 Maritime aircraft for export to Maldives and Sri Lanka with the help of Team of Experts comprising of Acquisition Wing, a representative from Service Wing and HAL. HAL is taking small step in building its brand image as global exporter. HAL’s brand image and identity was strategically projected by showcasing its products and capabilities while participating in leading international Air Shows like-Aero India 2021 and in Sri Lanka on their Air Force day. According to the HAL Annual report for 2020-21, the Philippines Coast Guard (PCG) is interested in procurement of 7 ALH and 8 Do-228 aircraft through the Line of Credit offered by Indian government. Talking about HAL ALH dhruv, it comes up with excellent maneuverability, user friendly control, low vibration and noise level, with high speed and efficient lift which makes it superior among the contemporary helicopters. ALH has logged close to 3 million cumulative flight hours and has proven its merit in versatile operations. HAL Dhruv has 4 military variants. HAL Dhruv MK1 which was the first variant had conventional cockpit with mechanical gauges and Turbomeca TM 333-2B2 turboshaft engines. A total of 56 MK1 have been delivered to the Indian military. HAL Dhruv MK2 is Similar to the Mk1, except for the newer HAL-IAI glass cockpit. A total of 20 have been delivered to the Indian military. HAL Dhruv MK3 has an improved Shakti-1H engines, new electronic warfare (EW) suite and warning systems, automatic chaff and flare dispensers, and improved vibration control system. The ALH Mk-III with new Shakti-1H engines has improved high altitude performance and can operating at an altitude over 6 km. It can host 14 fully equipped troops. Last but not the least is HAL MK4 which is also know as Dhruv-WSI(Weapon system Integrated) or HAL Rudra. It is an attack variant designed for the Indian Army. HAL Rudra has been armed with both anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles, and 20-mm turret-mounted cannon. The Dhruv-WSI is also capable of conducting combat air support (CAS) and anti-submarine warfare (ASW) roles. Recently DRDO has also conducted the test of Anti-Tank guided missiles from HAL Dhruv. Induction of ALH-DHRUV in Philippines costal guard will definitely boost their outstanding mission capability, flexibility, and operational excellence. Talking about the donier-228, it is 19 seater- highly versatile multi-purpose light transport aircraft. The Do-228 is a twin-engine, multirole light transport aircraft designed and developed jointly by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and RUAG Aerospace, Germany. It is derived from a Dornier Do-28 aircraft. It has been developed specifically to meet the manifold requirements of utility and commuter transport, third level services, air-taxi operations, coast guard duties and maritime surveillance.
