This footage from Kansas City station KCMO-TV is a compilation of clips from two distinct events. The footage shows former president Harry S. Truman in Independence, Missouri in 1963 and 1965. Included here are:
- December 1, 1963. Dedication of the Eddie Jacobson Memorial Plaque at the Truman Library. Mr. Truman, Frank Goldman, and others are present.
- August 26, 1965. Independence postmaster Edgar Hinde, Jr. serves as the host of a luncheon at the Rockwood Country Club to gather materials from local Independence, Missouri, civic organizations to include in a copper box time capsule embedded in the new Independence Post Office. Independence Mayor L.F.P. Curry welcomed the group to Independence. John F. Dee, regional director of the Post Office Department, says he'll include a 1915 postcard with Harry S. Truman listed as the Grandview postmaster, as well as materials related to the new zip code system and about voting registration. Mr. Truman gives some remarks and includes an envelope. Once it is full, the box is turned over to Don Sledd, resident engineer for the Post Office, to seal into the cornerstone during construction, to be opened again in 100-200 years.
This footage was originally recorded by local Kansas City television station KCMO-TV and donated to the Truman Library. KCMO's successor, KCTV-5, is allowing the Truman Library to post this footage. Users should seek permission to use this footage from KCTV.
