Saturation can be an extremely powerful tool to help fill out your mixes or masters. You should be careful though, because going too strong with it, and you'll get some really nasty artifacts that will kill your mix.
Using saturation to add harmonics to your song as a whole, or certain elements, not only fills your mix out, but can add some analog warmth to your mix.
