The 2022 shipping season has already started with a major surprise for all "boatnerds" out there. Coming out of winter layup, the legendary freighter Arthur M. Anderson was seen sporting a fresh coat of paint, wearing new colors to suit a new role on the lakes. According to spokesperson Russ T. Hull, the Anderson will be hauling wine between the extensive vineyards of northern Minnesota and bottling companies on the lower lakes. "This is a great new course for the Anderson, opening up new opportunities for lake freighters in the future." The Anderson's new purple paint will be effective in hiding any stains that occur from hauling its new cargo. According to Hull, "With so much sloshing around, you're bound to see a little spillage here and there." Wine won't be the only cargo carried by the Anderson, however. "We're looking to make the occasional beer runs too, especially if any ports on the Great Lakes are running low on game day."
To compliment her new colors, the Anderson was also outfitted with new horns in 2022. "These new horns will give the James R. Barker a run for her money, you can be certain," said Hull.
Not every boatnerd was happy with the new paint scheme on the Anderson. When a local grandmother was asked to look and comment, all she could do was exclaim "No!!!" Only time will tell if this new paint scheme will be accepted by the larger boat-watching community.
"It's important to note that this is only a trial run," said spokesperson Hull of the Anderson's new role. "In the event it doesn't work out, the Anderson will be reverted her back to her prior role of hauling iron ore and limestone."
"We should come to a decision soon... probably by April 2."
