How to set up your Canon G7X Mark III (mark 3) for streaming through your pc, laptop or Macbook, powered on an external power supply. The internal battery can run dry quite quickly when streming. Canon is a bit vague on what charger you need for the G7X Mark 3, and whether you can actually run off that power supply instead of just using it for charging the battery inside the camera. I didn't want to risk spending close to 200 euro's on the official charger, so I went experimenting.
And it turns out you can! Through a lot of searching I found that the requisite is a USB-C PD charger. I bought a 45W one just to be sure, but possibly it could also run off a cheaper one. (A Macbook USB-C charger will work fine too!) The most important point is that it should be connected with a USB-C to USB-C cable. This is the charger I got:

Clean output feed. Now to hook it up to your recording device (like a laptop), you'll want a clean output feed. For a clean feed over HDMI-out, first select the camera mode from the top dial, then go to menu, camera, 5, way at the bottom there is HDMI info disp. Under there you can select a clean feed in either 4K or FHD.
To connect it to my laptop, I bought the following HDMI capture card which directly plugs into your pc and gets recognized as an external (web)camera. Here's the one I bought:

This one only outputs a maximum of 1080p to the laptop, so no need for recording in 4K with this thing. It does receive 4k, but then scales it down.
Another route to go is to download the Canon Webcam Utility. ([ Ссылка ]) This works with the Mark III as well. However, as you use the USB-C port for this, you cannot charge it at the same time. I tried hooking it up to the USB-C port of a Macbook, but it doesn't charge the battery if you do. Also, I don't know if it outputs 4K, I haven't tried.
Enjoy! And if you have any questions just let me know in the comments.
