In this video, as we continue to prepare for more challenging flights and airports in the Bahamas, we test my skills and our aircraft's capabilities on the shortest paved airport in Florida, George T. Lewis airport (KCDK) in Cedar Key. At 2355ft in length, and with a displaced threshold and water on both ends, it's known for attracting adventurous pilots, many of whom, unfortunately, have put their planes in the marsh over the years.
After running the numbers, and carefully evaluating the true performance of our plane and my skill set, we decide to push forward and attempt the flight. For those interested, our Aztec is modified with a Robertson Short Take-Off and Land (STOL) Kit, so please be cautious if you are personally considering this airport, especially in a larger aircraft such as a twin, as runway disappears quickly. Know your aircraft and it's performance well and don't attempt this airport if you are not confident of both!
If you do make the trip, Cedar Key is a fantastic little seaside town, and we cannot recommend it any more strongly. We will be back to visit again.
