Chinese President Xi Jinping reviewed lineups of three services of the People's Liberation Army on Thursday morning as part of a grand military parade.
The ceremony was held to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
President Xi began reviewing the troops after delivering a speech at the Tian'anmen Rostrum.
Riding in an open limousine along Chang'an Avenue in downtown Beijing, Xi inspected the foot and armament formations composed of serving soldiers.
He greeted the formations of troops, saying "Hello, comrades!" "Thanks for your hard work!" And the formations responded with "Hello, President!" "We serve the people!"
Following the review, the formations marched past the Tian'anmen Rostrum either on foot or in vehicles, and military aircraft flew over during the parade.
The parade comprised two veteran teams, 11 marching formations, 27 armament formations and ten aircraft echelons.
China had held 14 military parades since 1949, all to mark the country's National Day that falls on Oct. 1.
Thursday's parade is the first of its kind held by China to commemorate the anniversary of the victory of its war against Japanese aggression and the world anti-Fascist war.
Foreign troops were also participating in the parade for the first time.
