Last winter made a movie in the OLVG hospital Amsterdam. We had already finished filming outside. You can not film inside but when warming up with a cup of tea in the hospital, I could not resist. The quality could be better but it was also exciting, with a piece of smile healthy gum in your mouth, spontaneously go shoot and run. This is the result.

Operation OLVG
As I am walking in the many new spotlights of the long street in the OLVG hospital I wonder.. Was the expansion of this hospital really necessary? Yes, you might say, seen that the nowadays’ population is getting older and older and advances in medical options require larger hospitals. The answer is actually no. Many diseases and conditions are a result of prosperity and can better be prevented than cured in big hospitals. Many people eat and drink themselves sick. By healthy eating and changing our lifestyle’s the use of more medical resources could be foreseen.
The World Health Organization has estimated that 75% of all western diseases come from an unhealthy diet and lifestyle.
Nowadays there are many diets: people eat organic foods and work out a lot. But this will simply not be the answer to all western diseases. If we really want to do something about obesity and the increasing number of chronic and deadly diseases early we should eat the way our ancestors did: structured, varied, moderate, local and seasonal
The point I am trying to make is hopefully becoming clear, the unhealthy ‘curing’ pointed society we are living in has to change. To all western diseases is one solution that resembles the diet of our ancestors: macrobiotics.
The power of macrobiotics lies in the ingredients and cooking techniques which properly promote your health. The macrobiotic kitchen is a kitchen without sickening products such as meat, dairy, sugar and saturated fat. The elimination of all harmful ingredients we nowadays see in our food is what makes macrobiotics so powerful. It is not just another diet, macrobiotic food works holistically. Changing in a macrobiotic lifestyle can even slow down disease processes and sometimes be an actual cure.
To my believe, if we all would not have moved to this always on a hurry, fast food projected society, there would not be a constant growth of medical needs. If more people would change their eating and lifestyle ways into the macrobiotic way, there would be a strong decline in western diseases and chronical sicknesses. My experience walking the path of making changes into a macrobiotic lifestyle has been very positive and enlightening; I feel more healthy, more relaxed and more positive-minded.
