Missing key players (Toby Perkins MP (keeper), Ian Murray MP) it was always going to be a challenge for Labour to live up to last year's 3-0 victory over the press lobby at this annual fixture, this year in Brighton to coincide with Labour Party Conference. Having battled throughout the first half against Patrick Hennesey's press team Labour conceded a goal just before the half time whistle.
The Press Lobby's no. 10, Ramzi Bedj-Bedj of Sky News, scored that first goal and scored again three times in the second half -- he was in a league of his own. The Balls/Burnham pairing that worked so well last year was unable to produce any goals for the Labour team this year at the Sussex County FA Headquarters.
Labour team:
Ed Balls MP (Shadow Chancellor), Gregg McClymont MP, Clive Betts MP (captain), Steve Rotheram MP, Kevin Brennan MP, Graham Jones MP, Clive Efford MP (Shadow Sports Minister), Sadiq Khan MP (Shadow Justice Secretary), Andy Burnham MP (Shadow Health Secretary), Jim Murphy MP (Shadow Defence Secretary), Luke Sullivan, James Mills, Paul McKay, James MacDougall (keeper).
