Many Photographers say that using VR at fast shutter speeds for Bird Photography reduces image sharpness. But, the photo examples in this tutorial disproves this, and even if using the Nikon 200-500mm on a tripod you’ll still get great-sharp images.

Even Nikon state that:
In both Normal and Sports VR modes the 200-500mm does provide a Tripod Vibration Reduction function. This automatically detects fine vibration from a tripod and compensates for it.
