Knafeh is a traditional Palestinian dessert made from a sweet variety of white cheese, shredded phyllo dough (more commonly known as kataifi dough), and a good dousing of simple syrup. Typically, the bottom of the tray is coated in ghee, followed by a layer of kataifi dough, and finally the crumbled sweet cheese. It is placed upon open flames and rotated to evenly cook the kataifi and melt the cheese. The tray is then flipped upside down and drowned in gorgeous, shiny syrup. Literally the ultimate cheat day dessert.
