Know what the record fish is can never lead you wrong. What happens if you catch a monster fish? You will never doubt the size because you will already know. The California Yellowtail Seriola lalandi dorsalis is a subspecies of the greater amberjack. They have a vibrant golden coloration with a yellow tail fin, are sleek and muscular and have a powerful fighting spirit. They primarily inhabit the warm waters of the Pacific ocean from Mexico to Southern California, however are sometimes found farther North. They eat smaller fish and squid and hang out in rocky structures, kelp forests and inshore reefs.
The California Yellowtail personifies the essence of offshore angling along the shores of the Golden State. Anglers have the privilege of wandering onto the azure waters of the Pacific, trying to find this hard-fighting, golden-hued trophy that tests both your skill and determination. The World Record California Yellowtail Weighs 109 lbs. 2 oz. Caught in Ohara Chilba, Japan by Masakazu Taniwaki October 2009
