First open the Venmo app on your mobile phone. Login into your account. On the dashboard of your account you can see your recent transactions. Tap on the Me icon in the bottom right corner. Then on your profile screen under the Venmo balance tap on the blue “Add Money” button. In the popup “Add Money” menu select “From bank or Debit Card.” Next on the transfer screen tap on the Bank and see the “Select funding source” menu. Tap on the “Add a bank or debit card” option. On the “Add a bank or debit card” menu tap on Bank. Venmo offers you to verify the bank using Plaid. Tap on the blue “Next” button. Plaid is a commonly used third party service that banks use to verify each other without sharing your user id and password. Tap on the back Continue button. Next you must verify yourself using OTP code. Tap Continue. In a few seconds you should receive the 6-digit code. Type it in and tap on black Continue button. Next tap the “Connect a new institution” option. Then select a bank. I chose Chase bank. Tap on the black “Continue to log-in” button. Next Chase bank app opens where it explains which information it is going to share with Venmo. Tap the blue Next button. Next tap then blue Next button. Next select which accounts you want to link to Venmo bank. Tap the blue “Connect my accounts” button. After a few seconds you can see confirmation notification at the top. Select the amount you want to transfer from Chase bank to your Venmo account. Next you can select your newly linked Chase bank account. The last step is to tap the green “Add $10.” Money should be available within the next 3-5 business days. That is how you can transfer money from an external bank account to your Venmo.
