Come and walk with me through the amazing city of Philadelphia.
Famous as the birthplace of the United States of America (and life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness). Philadelphia delivers one destination, five counties and countless things to do: fascinating museums, vibrant parks, national historic sites and colorful murals.
Why is Philadelphia the City of Brotherly Love?
"Philadelphia" is a combination of two Greek words:
phileo which means love and and adelphos which means brother.
The city was named by its founder, William Penn, who envisioned a city of religious tolerance where no one would be persecuted for their beliefs.
Pennsylvania's capital, Philadelphia, was the site of the first and second Continental Congresses in 1774 and 1775, which produced the Declaration of Independence, sparking the American Revolution.
