Avocados can be tricky to ripen but all you gotta do is let them sit on your kitchen counter and check them every day. Once they are soft like in this video they are ready to eat. Try to avoid tricks like putting them in a bag or leaving them in a hot car. Those myths tend to spoil instead of ripening the fruit. You can also forget them old wive's tales about the seed being detached or the stem being plucked clean. Your avocado is ready when it has naturally softened on your counter at room temperature a week to 10 days after picking.
