In this first episode of 'Toxicity Tests' we look at Acute Systemic Toxicity. Acute systemic toxicity measures the death or near death of 50% of animal test subjects after a single dose of a chemical or pharmaceutical. These tests are known as LD 50 tests. In the second half of this episode we look at 'AcuteTox', which was an EU project, assigned the task of developing an in vitro test strategy to replace the animal tests.
