A Panama City Beach visitor shared some unusual video Sunday of sharks being dragged onto the sands of Panama City Beach as beachgoers looked on.
Tammy Scott posed the videos Sunday afternoon in a Facebook group titled “I Love Panama City Beach.” She said they’d been recorded in front of Thomas Donut & Snack Shop, a beachfront business in between major resort complexes.
In the first video, Scott walks toward a group of young men pulling a hooked shark to shore. “That’s a baby one,” says a child who can’t be seen on camera. The animal appears to be around 5 feet long. Several people help hold the shark as one man works a hook from its mouth. After a pause, several of them work the shark back into the water.
The second incident begins in similar fashion, but with a larger shark. Five young men converge on the shark and pull it in; this one puts up more of a fight, thrashing around for a moment at the water’s edge after it’s pulled onto land. It manages to give one of the men an audible slap with its tail, producing laughter from some onlookers. Eventually two men are able to hold it down. In the third video it’s released after being unhooked. One onlooker is heard saying he’s not sure whether the men meant to catch it.
